Leh to Leh Ladakh Road Trip – 8 Days Package
Embark on an unforgettable 8-day round-trip adventure that starts and ends in Leh, winding through the most spectacular landscapes of Ladakh. From crossing the legendary Khardung La pass and camping beside Pangong Lake to exploring India's last border village at Turtuk and discovering the pristine Tso Moriri, this all-inclusive road trip package delivers the ultimate Himalayan experience — a journey through high passes, ancient monasteries, colour-shifting lakes, and cold desert valleys.
Overview
This carefully designed 8-day Leh to Leh circuit is crafted for travellers who want to experience every essential facet of Ladakh without the exhausting highway drives from Manali or Srinagar. Starting from Leh, the journey takes you across some of the world's highest motorable mountain passes, through ancient Buddhist monasteries perched on rocky hillsides, into sweeping cold desert valleys dotted with Bactrian camels, and alongside pristine glacial lakes that shift between shades of blue throughout the day.
What sets this 8-day itinerary apart is the inclusion of Turtuk — India's northernmost village on the Indo-Pakistan border, a hidden gem that was only opened to tourists in 2010. Combined with the iconic Nubra Valley sand dunes, the legendary Pangong Tso featured in popular cinema, and the serene, lesser-known Tso Moriri surrounded by snow-dusted peaks and migratory birds, this trip covers the complete Ladakh experience.
Whether you are a photographer chasing golden-hour landscapes, an adventure enthusiast hungry for high-altitude passes, a culture lover drawn to centuries-old monasteries, or a traveller seeking solitude in vast open spaces, this road trip has something extraordinary waiting at every turn. The route totals approximately 1,300 kilometres of some of the most dramatic driving on the planet.

Leh Local Sightseeing: Monasteries, Palaces & Confluence
Distance covered: 40 km
After breakfast, set out for a day of cultural exploration around Leh. Visit the magnificent Thiksey Monastery, often compared to Tibet's Potala Palace for its multi-storied architecture rising dramatically against blue skies.
Continue to the Hall of Fame Museum built by the Indian Army, then drive to the mesmerising Sangam Point where the muddy Indus River meets the clear turquoise Zanskar River in a striking visual contrast.
Stop at Gurudwara Patthar Sahib, a sacred Sikh shrine nestled between mountains, and end the day at the curious Magnetic Hill and the serene Shanti Stupa for a golden-hour panoramic view of the entire Leh valley.

Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La Pass
Distance covered: 30 km
Route: Leh → Khardung La → Diskit → Hunder
Today's drive is one of the most thrilling on the planet. After an early breakfast, you ascend towards Khardung La, standing at approximately 5,359 metres — one of the highest motorable passes in the world. The pass rewards you with sweeping views of the Karakoram Range and the vast Nubra Valley below before you begin the winding descent.
Nubra, often called the "Orchard of Ladakh" for its unexpected greenery amidst barren mountains, is a stunning contrast of desert and fertility. Visit the 14th-century Diskit Monastery and its towering 32-metre Maitreya Buddha statue standing guard over the valley, then head to the white sand dunes of Hunder for a once-in-a-lifetime Bactrian camel ride across the cold desert as the sun dips behind the mountains.
Overnight at a camp or guesthouse in Hunder.

Nubra Valley to Turtuk Village & Back – India's Last Border Village
Distance covered: 170 km
Route: Hunder → Turtuk → Hunder
Today is dedicated to one of Ladakh's most fascinating and off-the-beaten-path experiences — a day trip to Turtuk, India's northernmost village accessible to tourists, located just a few kilometres from the Line of Control with Pakistan. Turtuk was part of Pakistan-administered Baltistan until 1971 and was only opened to tourists in 2010, making it one of Ladakh's newest and most unique destinations.
The drive from Hunder follows the Shyok River through increasingly dramatic gorges, with the road carved into sheer cliff faces. In Turtuk, you will explore the ancient Balti settlement with its terraced apricot orchards, centuries-old wooden mosques, the Yabgo Royal House (the residence of the former Balti king), and a small but fascinating museum documenting the village's unique history.
The warmth and hospitality of the Balti people, along with fresh apricots and walnuts, make this a highlight of the entire trip.
Return to Hunder by evening for an overnight stay.

Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso via Shyok River Route
Distance covered: 180 km
Route: Hunder → Shyok River → Pangong Tso
After a peaceful morning in Nubra Valley, begin the spectacular drive to Pangong Lake along the Shyok River route. This road winds through dramatic gorges, following the turquoise Shyok River past remote hamlets and military checkpoints.
As you approach Pangong Tso, the sheer vastness of the lake gradually unfolds before you — a mesmerising sheet of blue that stretches 134 kilometres across the border into China. The lake famously shifts between shades of azure, cerulean, turquoise, and deep indigo as sunlight angles change throughout the day.
Spend the evening beside the lake, watching the sun set over the water and the Milky Way emerge across one of the clearest night skies you will ever see.
Overnight at a lakeside camp with campfire dinner.

Pangong Lake to Tso Moriri via Changthang Plateau
Distance covered: 190 km
Route: Pangong → Chumur → Korzok → Tso Moriri
Wake up to a glorious sunrise over Pangong before beginning the long but incredibly scenic drive to Tso Moriri. The route takes you through the remote Changthang Plateau — a vast, high-altitude grassland that feels like the edge of the world. This is the homeland of the nomadic Changpa herders, who tend their prized pashmina goats across these open expanses at over 4,500 metres.
This is one of the least-travelled stretches in Ladakh, offering raw, unfiltered beauty at every bend — distant snow peaks, vast golden plains, and an immense sky stretching in every direction.
Tso Moriri, at 4,522 metres, is a pristine freshwater lake ringed by snow-dusted mountains and frequented by migratory birds including the rare bar-headed goose.
Visit the small Korzok Monastery on the lakeshore before settling in for the night.
Overnight at a camp or guesthouse near Korzok village.

Tso Moriri to Leh via Chumathang Hot Springs & Hemis
Distance covered: 220 km
Route: Tso Moriri → Chumathang → Upshi → Hemis → Leh
On the final driving day of the road trip, head back to Leh through a completely different route that reveals yet another face of Ladakh. Stop at Chumathang, a small settlement nestled beside the Indus River, famous for its natural hot springs where you can soak your feet in geothermally heated water — a welcome relief after days of mountain driving.
Continue past the gateway town of Upshi, then visit the magnificent Hemis Monastery, the largest and wealthiest Buddhist monastery in Ladakh, home to priceless ancient murals and artefacts.
Arrive in Leh by evening for a farewell dinner at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the illuminated Leh Palace, celebrating an extraordinary week of adventure across some of the most dramatic terrain on Earth.
